What is the smallest city in Italy? The answer is Moncalvo, a center in Monferrato of great historic importance, rich in art and gastronomy. Here is one of Monferrato's most important castles and it is here that the painter Guglielmo Caccia created a large part of his artistic masterpieces. The city tour will surprise you by discovering churches full of pictorial jewels, two museums (the civic house, with original works by De Chirico and Chagall, and parish church with ancient reliquaries), the underground of the castle and many gastronomic excellence such as truffles and Piedmontese meats, celebrated by autumn fairs of national importance.
But also the neighborhoods will not miss interesting experiences: The Sacred Mount of Crea, listed in the Unesco World Heritage, enjoys an amazing view, with its church, chapels and naturalistic walking; Ponzano Monferrato, a village where castles and historic houses of precious majesty come with majestic gardens and parks; Odalengo Piccolo, green village and known for its ancient apples and the fair dedicated to tuff and truffles and the astronomical observatory.
A suggested stop is at the Roseto della Sorpresa in Castell'Alfero where you can discover fragrant ancient varieties of roses.
Small town, great heritage of beauty and discoveries!
