Casale Città Aperta. Special openings in the second weekend of each month in Casale Monferrato

Are you planning to visit or to come back in the town of Casale Monferrato? Good choice! Casale and the Monferrato area are unexpected destinations that will fascinate you.

There is always something different to visit and do in Casalebut one of the best moments to come is the second weekend of each month – except August – when you can visit some places which are opened only on that occasion, take part in the free guided tour organized by the voluntary association “Orizzonte Casale” on Sunday afternoon and walk up and down the stalls in the Antiques Market held in Piazza Castello.

One of the places that is possible to visit is the Municipal Theatre, inaugurated in 1791 and sold by the “Noble’s Society” to the Town Council in 1861. The theatre was reopened to the public in 1990 after accurate restoration works. The painting on the ceiling represents the Muses. The theatre is a jewel with its stuccos, decorations, gold-plating and velvet.

Another place that  can’t be missed is the Civic Tower, which has ancient origins and is also the emblem of the town. Thanks to “Casale Città Aperta” it is possible to walk up to the panoramic terrace and enjoy wonderful views.

Last but not least, we suggest that you take time to visit St. Michael’s Church– whose dome was frescoed in 1597 and with the painting The Archangel Saint Michael whose preparatory sketch is now at the Royal Library in Turin – and Vitta Palace – the building was started at the end of the 17th century.

In addition it is possible to visit other churches, museums and places that are opened every weekend, such as: the Synagogue and Jewish Museums (on Sundays only); the Civic Museum and Bistolfi Gipsoteca; Saint Evasio’s Cathedral and the Cathedral treasure; St. Domenico’s church and cloister; the castle.
